Skills
The actions your digital team mates can perform on your behalf.
What Are Skills?
Skills are the specific actions your mates can take – like searching the web, generating an image, finding a doctor’s appointment, or getting a YouTube transcript. Each app provides one or more skills.
Your mates choose which skills to use based on what you ask for. You do not need to pick a skill yourself – just describe what you need and your mate handles the rest.
How Skills Work
- You send a message describing what you want.
- Your mate figures out which skill (or skills) to use.
- The skill runs and returns results.
- Your mate presents the results to you with context and follow-up suggestions.
Multiple Requests at Once
Many skills can handle multiple requests in parallel. For example, you can ask “Search for Python tutorials and FastAPI guides” and both searches run at the same time. Results appear as they complete, so you do not wait for everything to finish.
Results and Previews
Skill results appear as visual preview cards in the chat:
- Web search – Cards with titles, descriptions, and links
- Images – Thumbnail previews you can open in fullscreen
- Maps – Location cards with addresses and ratings on a map
- Videos – Thumbnail previews with video details
Click any preview to see more details or open it in fullscreen.
Follow-Up Suggestions
After showing results, your mate may suggest next steps. For example, after a web search you might see suggestions like “Search more in depth” or “Read the full article.”
Long-Running Tasks
Some skills take a few seconds to complete (like generating images or processing multiple searches). When this happens:
- Your mate continues the conversation and does not make you wait.
- Results appear automatically when ready.
- You can keep chatting while tasks are running in the background.
Reliable Processing
- Requests are never rejected due to temporary limits. They are queued and run when ready.
- If a request hits a limit, it automatically retries.
- You see partial results as they come in rather than waiting for everything at once.
